Resourcing and the Provision of Services at the Linn Dara CAMHS Unit: Discussion

Dr. Brendan Doody:

The Linn Dara inpatient service has a regional remit. Linn Dara community services have a remit for south Dublin, south-west Dublin, Kildare and west Wicklow, whereas we will admit young people from our primary catchment area, which extends from all of County Dublin across Kildare and Wicklow and into the midlands. We also take young people under the age of 18 years from north Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan. When a young person is being admitted, part of the discharge planning is working and planning with the community team with regard to the supports the young person and his or her family will need post discharge. We are working with community teams across all these counties. In some cases, for example, where the young person is attending a specialist eating disorder service or a community one, we are working with whatever team the person is engaged with in the community. We work with them and part of the discharge planning is planning for the package of supports that the young person will need following discharge. In other words, if the person is going back to a Linn Dara service, it is within our service remit. Again, however, we are taking children from a much broader area and from other services.
