The information that is provided to people is extremely important. The IPRT has done a "know your rights" accessible guide in plain English, based on the prison rules, setting what your rights are. In the research I referred to, we found that if somebody is deaf in the prison system there are very limited interpretation facilities. Again, that comes down to resources. There is an ongoing review of the prison rules. We hope that will take into account some of these issues around disability. However, we need to look at other more innovative ways to communicate with people and ensure they know their rights from the outset in order for them to be able to vindicate them at all.
