Public Accounts Committee

2020 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General
Chapter 3 - Central Government Funding of Local Authorities

9:30 am

Ms Lorraine O'Donoghue:

I take the Deputy’s point that there has been a great deal of development and change, particularly in those counties, presumably, in Leinster where there has been housing development, etc. The local property tax revaluation has not been quite finalised but the idea is that it will bring the property tax charges from those additional properties into the tax net and, in the programme for Government, the commitment is that 100% of local property tax will be retained in the area in which it is collected. The alignment of those two matters later in the year should lead to additional resources, to a recalculation and to a change to the allocation model for the local property tax.
