Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021: Committee Stage
Cathal Crowe (Clare, Fianna Fail) | Oireachtas source
This is a very good amendment. It speaks to consumers in that they will know what type of car they are buying. The Minister mentioned at a previous meeting he was considering setting up a type of national database for electric vehicles in order that people buying second-hand vehicles would know their battery history or powers. I take it he envisages that the amendment will also contemplate that. We all know what is under the bonnet of the petrol and diesel cars. We are already seeing the second and third iterations of electric vehicles. People want to know the electric vehicle they buy in seven or eight years' time is as good as it was when it left the garage and that it is still roadworthy. Does the Minister envisage such provision being contemplated by this amendment?
