European Works Councils and Related Irish Legislation: Discussion
Louise O'Reilly (Dublin Fingal, Sinn Fein) | Oireachtas source
With regard to the EWCs that are currently here, is it Mr. Hayes's position that they may leave if we do not change the law? Reference was made to the fact that Ireland is English-speaking and that this would be attractive to those companies who are leaving Britain because of Brexit. What if we do not change the law and we simply come out at the end of this process and see there is no appetite, which clearly there has not been since 2011, to do it right or subsequently to fix it? If the law is not changed does Mr. Hayes anticipate EWCs that have come here will leave or that it would act as a deterrent to other EWCs to move here?
