The Senator referred to Cecilia Malmström, who was the EU Commissioner for Trade. The Commissioner made some strong statements four years ago about the Energy Charter Treaty. Indeed, we do see that the Energy Charter Treaty is a tool for trade. Right now, my colleague the executive vice president Valdis Dombrovskis, is the EU Commissioner for Trade, and is part of our discussions on how we will achieve the modernisation of this treaty.

We should not lose faith that we can convince the international community to follow our path.

On investments here in Europe, the Energy Charter Treaty does not apply to intra-EU investment.
