Mr. David Moloney:

We have tried to respond to the concerns raised by the committee in terms of the transparency of Secretary General pay by amending the notes to the appropriation accounts. We will look at it further for next year and see whether we can do anything more this year on it. The constraint we are under in relation to the publication of salary is not really about the salary for the job but personal information that could be contained therein. Typically, Secretaries General are on a single point scale. They may or may not have personal pension contributions depending on whether they began before or after 1995. There is no real difficulty in setting out the gross salary of any Secretary General or any civil servant.
