Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach

Withdrawal from Irish Banking Market: Engagement with Ulster Bank and KBC Ireland

Mr. Patrick Farrell:

On an ongoing basis and with business as usual, we have more than 800 staff on our front line to meet customers as they come in. We also have 100 staff who are mobile, whose job is to be out in the community meeting customers in their local businesses and homes. That is a considerable advantage to us at the moment because we are able to meet even vulnerable customers who might be unable to come in to meet us. In respect of this particular challenge of meeting the increased account-opening work coming at us, we have added an additional 300 onto our front line, half of whom will be directly in our branches and contact centre, while the rest will be on our switching and operational teams to help with the account-opening.
