Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters
Employment and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Discussion
Mr. James McManus:
My name is James McManus. Social farming has helped me a lot over the past few years.
When I started going to social farming, I lived with my parents. I did not know where I would live in the future or if I would be able to get a job. After taking part in social farming, I have got better at a lot of things, like using public transport, looking after myself, staying busy and keeping fit and healthy. From social farming I learned more about farming work, how to work with other people and about cooking and healthy eating. Through social farming I made new friends like Tommy Earley and we stayed in touch.
Today, I live in my own house and cook and clean. I also have a dog. Now I have a new job at the mart with Ivan Moffit and Seán-----
