Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health
New National Maternity Hospital: Discussion (Resumed)
Mr. Peter Boylan:
I very much support the move of a properly co-located and truly independent national maternity hospital to be co-located with St. Vincent's. That is a good idea. I have always supported that and have never been against it. The solution is the Sisters of Charity and the new owners should - if the alienation has taken place according to Vatican stipulations - honour the commitment and gift the land to the people of Ireland or sell it to the State. We now have new owners who are the shareholders of St. Vincent's Holdings. They are three people and they can make that decision. The solution to this lies with the St. Vincent's shareholders. They are the ones who can solve this at the stroke of a pen.
