Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government
Social and Affordable Housing: Discussion
Mr. Bob Jordan:
That target is a significant one given the complexity of the CPO process. The benefits have probably been realised more during Covid when people had plenty of time to look around and see the existing level of vacancy and dereliction. The answer to the Chairman’s previous question is that local authorities need some support around this process. There is a level of complexity in it. The target is significant but the benefit of such work is creating better urban spaces, as the Chairman said, and achieving carbon savings but also creating an opportunity to move people, particularly those on social housing waiting lists and potentially purchasers, into these properties. The target is significant.
