Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government
Social and Affordable Housing: Discussion
Mr. Barry O'Leary:
There is always scope for more engagement in any of these things. We engage with the chief executives of local authorities. We have formal sessions with them at least twice a year. Within the past month, Mr. Jordan and I were at the housing summit and all the chief executives and local authorities were there. Cost rental was discussed in quite a bit of detail. We have had discussions with a number of chief executives in the Dublin area about the benefits of it. As Deputy Duffy highlighted, there is a rate difference, and there should be one. We are lending.
We must build in the associated risk. I think it is well understood. I do not think a lack of understanding is driving this.
