Aligning Education with the UNCRPD (Resumed): Discussion

I appreciate it. I would rather know about instances than not because then I can bring them to the attention of the National Council for Special Education. I do not - the Department does not either nor does anybody in the National Council for Special Education - want to see any child in a situation where he or she is not receiving the education that he or she should be receiving.
Communication is important. We have a new CEO now of the National Council for Special Education, Mr. John Kearney, who has just been appointed. I have not met Mr. Kearney yet. I hope to meet him over the next couple of days. Mr. Kearney will be very much looking at the operational structure of the NCSE. That will assist as well in terms of the special educational needs organisers, SENOs, liaising with families and schools to make sure that we keep those lines of communication open and that there is no room left for error. That, with the targeted and integrated planning forecasting process, will make a big difference in the short, medium and long term.
