Committee on Public Petitions

Direct Provision Policy and Related Matters: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. Colm O'Dwyer:

Very briefly, what Ms Gibney has said is completely correct. There is not a full rounded system because it is based on the direct provision model for-profit centres and things like that. In terms of integration and community, as well as Waterford I would commend Roscommon where there has been some very good examples in terms of the community’s efforts to integrate asylum seekers. The committee might want to look at or hear some more about that. It is not a model for everything but, as to integration, there has been some very good work there and I am sure that the Refugee Council could provide the committee with information about that. I thank the committee.
