Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government

General Scheme of the Planning and Development (Amendment) (LSRD) Bill 2021: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage

Mr. Paul Hogan:

There was discussion. The recommendations of the group in 2019 indicated we might consider making strategic housing developments more strategic for larger scale schemes. The issue is that, depending on where you are in the country, 200 units is either significant or very significant. In Dublin it is not as significant as it might be in a smaller town or city. On balance, it was decided to leave the figure at 100. That was carried forward in the discussion of the group in relation to the current proposals. It was felt easier to work with what people understand and keep it as consistent as possible. I do not know if Mr. Ryan wants to add anything to that.
