General Scheme of the Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill: Discussion (Resumed)

Ms Alicia O'Sullivan:

Starting with Instagram, it was very difficult to manoeuvre around. Regarding how the company responds initially to someone reporting something very damaging, such as illegal content, those types of reports must be taken more seriously than other categories of reporting. Regarding a helpline, it is very difficult to have one in the context of a social media company such as Instagram. However, the company's responses to cases such as mine and my experience must be different. Something obviously went wrong when my account was disabled, and there certainly seems to be a lack of human involvement behind the kind of artificial intelligence involved and that does not help the situation. Regarding whether there should be a helpline, then, I do not know if that is entirely possible. However, I certainly think there should be a certain number of people behind these screens.
