Supports exist, and after telling my story online I received such support from the Sexual Violence Centre Cork and from Professor Crowley who works with the bystander intervention programme. As I mentioned already, the staff of the divisional protective services unit have been nothing short of incredible. However, the problem which exists is the lack of awareness of these supports. Again, as I said earlier, in essence, I was not told of any of these services when I first went to report this crime. The average person in society is not aware of these supports. These are not new problems, but the supports available are not widely known. This is the big hurdle we must overcome.
