Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community
Cláir Nuachta Gaeilge: Plé
Mr. Jon Williams:
Could I make one point? I am perfectly competent to talk about news and current affairs. I run news and current affairs in English and in Irish and that is what I understood the committee wanted to discuss. If I have misunderstood, then I apologise, but we have come here in good faith. As I said in my opening statement, notwithstanding the concerns both Deputies and Senators may have, the staff of "Nuacht RTÉ" work incredibly hard and I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved over the past 16 months.
I had hoped I might be able to express that to the committee today. If I am not able to, then of course I understand, but it would be unfortunate. I will completely understand and accept the decision of the committee.
