On the power relationship that a directly elected mayor has, one issue the committee should consider is how much power is being given to the directly elected mayor, how he or she will relate to the first councillor and the director general and whether enough resources will be given to a directly elected mayor to allow him or her to carry out an ambitious programme of policy that we all hope a directly elected mayor would be allowed to do.
