Committee on Budgetary Oversight
Fiscal Assessment Report: Irish Fiscal Advisory Council
Mr. Sebastian Barnes:
On the question of being more focused, as the economy recovers, the general need to put money into the economy will be less. It will instead be about targeting specific sectors. If businesses struggle even after the economy has returned to its normal level, it raises a deeper question about their position. It may be that some sectors will take more time to return, and that is fine, but it raises a question about whether such businesses will be able to survive. It is much too early to tell at this stage, but once the recovery is in full swing, the general need to support should be less. That is as much as I can say.
