If the protocol is not functioning and if the island of Ireland collectively is not guaranteeing the integrity of the EU Single Market, that has a knock-on consequence for Ireland's place in the Single Market, which, therefore, has a knock-on consequence on the implementation of the TCA as a trade agreement that protects the integrity of the Single Market while avoiding tariffs and quotas. These issues are interlinked and that point was not lost on the President when she spoke to the Parliament today.
