Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government
General Scheme of the Affordable Housing Bill 2020: Discussion (Resumed)

I can. Deputy Higgins is wrong to suggest that under Sinn Féin's affordable housing plan, people will not own their own home. They will. The benefit of our plan is that home will remain permanently affordable but under the Government's plan, people will not own their own home because they will have a debt of €150,000, €175,000 or €200,000.
Senator Fitzpatrick is also wrong to say this is only a small part of the Government's affordable housing plan. It is the biggest. There will be €75 million in Government expenditure this year plus €75 million from the banks.
