France closed schools for three weeks around Easter but schools here could have remained open since the start of September last year up until this particular break. While workplace closures here are, according to Reuters, for example, far longer than in other European countries, there is little difference between morbidity and mortality rates between countries such as Germany and Ireland. I understand that waves have happened at different times but, in general, many countries have managed to lock down far less and without the massive cost that we would imagine that would bring. The policies in Ireland are outliers in the context of Europe.
