Pre-Stability Programme Update: Discussion

Dr. Mark Cassidy:

I apologise. I do not mean to evade the question. I would say there is less competition in the Irish retail banking sector than there is in most other European countries.

That has implications and banking is seen as an inherently national activity. It would be useful if the completion of a banking union allowed for a more European financial sector development. Currently we have a highly concentrated banking system with implications for choice.
