Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government

General Scheme of the Affordable Housing Bill 2020 (Resumed): Land Development Agency

Mr. John Coleman:

In a nutshell, the LDA is going to deliver significant amounts of affordable housing. The question has always been about what that will look like. The Bill clarifies that for everyone, including the LDA, our elected representatives and the people who are ultimately going to benefit from the provision of these homes. The affordable purchase provisions and the cost rental provisions in the Bill provide us with much clarity about how things are going to work, so I welcome that. I do not propose anything additional to that from the LDA's perspective. It is very important the regulations are correct as well. I look forward to working with the Department and the Minister on those regulations, whenever required.
