Impact of Brexit on Haulage, Freight, the Ports and Ferry Companies: Discussion

Mr. Kieran O'Callaghan:

The Deputy is missing the point of the just-in-time system. Just-in-time cargo is an evolution of just-in-time manufacturing and the transition into Lean Six Sigma. The cargo we are discussing is not destined for Europe but is going beyond Europe to all the continents of the world. If we take a 35-hour or 36-hour average transit time against 9.5 hours or 10.5 hours, that is huge in the just-in-time cycle, the system of inventory and storage and what one keeps and does not keep on one's books-----
