Select Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment

Renewable Energy Directive: Motions

Mr. Eamonn Confrey:

In our case informal, tentative negotiations commenced in 2018, principally with Estonia and with one or two others. Whether we could have achieved better value remains to be seen. An opportunity arose this year because of the funds that have become available from savings elsewhere in the Vote. That opportunity was not open to us in previous years. It is a significant cost. We are one of a smallish number of member states that are going to be in deficit so we are, unfortunately, at the mercy, if I can put it that way, of the supply and demand in terms of the costs that are being charged.
