Public Accounts Committee

2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 21 - Prisons
Chapter 7 – Catering and Ancillary Services in Prisons

11:30 am

Ms Oonagh McPhillips:

No. As the Deputy knows, it is a very large site. It is a strategic asset for the State and we have made it known to the Land Development Agency that there is a portion of it in which we would not have a strategic interest. In the medium to long term, our preference is to retain a portion as an option in case we need it. Our development potential around other prisons is very limited, as the Deputy knows, and he is familiar with some of those in the city centre, for example. It is not possible to develop around them.
