Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement
Cross-Border Further and Higher Education Sectors: Discussion
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill (Dún Laoghaire, Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
Listening to the contributions, a great deal of that is students who live along the Border going to universities on one side or the other. However, it is about the rest of the island and students from Belfast studying in Cork or Dublin and collaborations involving Cork and Magee or others. This committee and the work of the Good Friday Agreement is about building better relationships and have greater friendships with all the communities across all the island. I appreciate that we have spent a lot of time speaking about Letterkenny and Derry but the relationships between Belfast and Dublin and Belfast Cork are as important. What happened was a shame and it disrupted the flow of people coming. It would be wonderful if that could be changed.
