Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach

Engagement with Governor of the Central Bank

Mr. Ed Sibley:

We have been very clear about our expectations and are intensively engaged with all the lenders and the Banking & Payments Federation Ireland to reinforce those expectations. We have expected that the lenders were preparing and have the necessary resource and operational capability to engage with borrowers at this time and that they are doing so to put in place appropriate solutions that suit those borrowers' needs over the short to medium term. That is what we expect to happen and we will supervise to ensure that it does. Where it does not happen and there is evidence that is the case, we will follow that up, which is why we have engaged with MABS, and I would be happy to engage with members of the committee.
