When means testing, the HSE looks at details of a person's income and assets and presents them with supporting documentation. Resident contributions to the cost of care are based on a maximum of 80% of their weekly income, or 7.5% of the value of their home, subject to a three-year cap. That could be changed to six years with new legislation coming in for farms and businesses.
