Covid-19: Review of the Reopening of Schools (Resumed)

In general, I wish to acknowledge the questions and the original points the Deputy has raised. On the question of whether schools will stay open and whether they will do so on a long-term basis, he has raised an important point. Experts, including our Chief Medical Officer, CMO, Professor Philip Nolan, and others have said that schools by their nature are essentially very safe places and all the measures that need to be put in place in terms of a Covid-safe environment have been put in place, with substantial funding of €160 million already gone into the schools for a variety of measures to ensure that the best possible safety measures are taken in schools.
