Covid-19: The Situation in Meat Processing Plants

May I speak? I wish to re-emphasise that, in our opinion, any kind of PPE or other health and safety measure that is adopted in the workplace and is not corroborated with an adjustment in the pace of work will be ineffective. We have noticed that, even in workplaces where there was a workers' health and safety committee, it was never consulted as to the suitability of the measures for how workers were expected to do their work. Production never slowed down. I have sources in killing, dispatch, packing, boning and all other parts of the meat plant. The volume processed in every meat plant that we are in contact with has increased even though there have been fewer workers. The companies could not source foreign workers at the height of lockdown and, when some workers got ill, others would just have to do more work. Even if a Perspex screen was installed, workers would still have to lift heavy crates and pass them on to one another. They actually have to lift-----
