May I explain that? It depends on the length of the interval between when a patient would have been diagnosed and when he or she is diagnosed. That is largely down to the type of cancer and the age of the patient. The European Society of Breast Imaging has written in its introduction that a relatively short delay in screening healthy women of six to 12 weeks has almost very little impact on survival. However, in terms of younger women who present with aggressive symptoms in our symptomatic services, that is where the life years can be gained by treating them very quickly.
