The rate of interest charged on a mortgage is a commercial decision by the lender. The Central Bank does not play a role in setting interest rates. In recent months, we have worked with our colleagues on the governing council of the ECB to ensure the financing conditions for the euro area remained accommodative and liquidity continued to flow.
