Congregated Settings: Direct Provision Centres

On the opening of the centre in Cahersiveen, as my colleagues in the Department of Justice and Equality stated, we were also informed of the opening on March 16. That information was provided to the HSE national social inclusion office as well as to the local community healthcare organisation. At that point, the community healthcare organisation, particularly its social inclusion services, would have had multiple engagements in the following days to ensure that access to health services was put in place for all the new residents. Given that the opening of the centre was happening at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, our national social inclusion office - the membership of which includes a number of public health specialists - would also have provided guidance from a public health point of view.
