Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality

Access to Justice and Legal Costs: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. Fergal O'Leary:

We did not. The issues around transparency are already accepted. As our colleagues from Insurance Ireland said, the Central Bank plans to publish data on public liability next year, so I think that point is well accepted. Again, we are not trying to replicate the work that is being done by either the cost of insurance working group or the Personal Injuries Commission. We feel we can do that. We are confident in terms of our ability to look at this market from the point of view of an analysis around theories of harm and to make evidence-based recommendations on that point. However, we do not plan to make an interim report simply because that would slow down the publication of the final report.
