Access to Justice and Legal Costs: Discussion (Resumed)
Mr. Gerry Hassett:
The big trend in public liability insurance is companies leaving the market. We are not au fait with the individual profit characteristics of firms, but what is clear in the liability market is that much of it, particularly some of the specialty cases, has been covered by syndicates from the UK. Those syndicates are exiting the market and are no longer willing to write cover. That would seem to indicate the necessity of some structural reforms. I do not have access to individual profit numbers, however.
