As part of their overall curriculum on health and wellbeing schools may invite people with expert knowledge in to add to the SPHE curriculum. The Department of Education and Skills provided particular instructions, supported by us, on the types of people that would come in and the type of information that would be given across other topics as well as sex education. It may be an issue examined by the NCCA review. The skills and confidence of teachers teaching SPHE and sex education in particular is something we need to support, no more than parents, in order to provide young people with a comfortable environment to be open, take up the knowledge, ask the questions that they have and get the factual information.
