I move amendment No. 15:

In page 25, after line 39, to insert the following: “(4) Where an AHB provides ‘special needs accommodation’ for tenants with additional needs beyond an inability to provide for their housing from their own resources, “special needs accommodation” shall be defined as accommodation provided to persons who by reason of old age, physical or mental disability or other cause require special accommodation and support to enable them to live in the community.”.

The amendment has been tabled following consultation on the number of approved housing bodies to be involved. It makes sense and is self-explanatory on the provision of special needs accommodation by an AHB. I am interested in hearing the views of the Minister and the Department on what is a reasonable request. The amendment would strengthen the section by making it more descriptive of what special needs accommodation would constitute.
