Public Accounts Committee

2018 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 22: Courts Service

9:00 am

Ms Angela Denning:

In part. I pay for them but they report primarily to the President of the High Court because they provide solicitor services to the office of wards of court. For example, if a ward of court is an elderly person and there is a dispute within the family, and if there is nobody within the family to act as the committee for the ward, the general solicitor may be appointed as the committee for the ward to act in his or her best interests. In other circumstances, such as where a ward of court has property that needs to be sold, the general solicitor will do the conveyancing and so on. The general solicitor acts as the solicitor on behalf of wards of court, in the main.
