Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government

General Scheme of the Land Development Agency Bill 2019: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. John Coleman:

The exemptions in the Act are helpful in terms of commercial sensitivity. When I consider the impact on the LDA of freedom of information issues, it is purely to protect the LDA and the taxpayer resources going into it, for instance, regarding information on how we analyse sites or sites we are interested in acquiring in future. It is about commercial sensitivity and commercial operations. Deputy O'Broin made a good point on the general exemptions that exist under the Freedom of Information Act and this just follows recent precedents and precedents from elsewhere.
