The issue of monitoring performance against targets can be looked at in different ways. The Environmental Protection Agency is charged with preparing national inventories of greenhouse gas emissions, which it does on an annual basis, and it published the most recent set of inventories for 2018 only a couple of weeks ago. It prepares projections of greenhouse gas emissions under its statutory independent function as part of its environment monitoring role. The Department, the Minister and the Government take the statistics on board.
