I want to pick up on that point. For me, this is the same with teachers. One can sit in a classroom and look at matters theoretically all day long but it does not mean a doctor or a teacher or anybody who has that level of understanding and empathy with the trauma of a particular community will be produced. Should a core curriculum always be matched with GPs in training having to spend time in the communities in which they will serve? Should they train directly with Traveller organisations and with the working class communities to understand the social context, rather than just learning in a classroom?
