Gas Networks Ireland's Vision 2050: Discussion

Mr. Brendan Murphy:

There has been a lower rate of success in Europe than elsewhere, but it is starting to take off now. In the UK, for example, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy launched a consultation over the summer seeking to have one full-chain carbon capture and storage plant operational by the mid-2020s and a mainstream large implementation from 2030 onward. It is about overcoming the obstacles that have thus far prevented such developments in Europe. Those obstacles are not technical but are much more about the legal frameworks and who owns the risk.
