Integrated Education: Discussion
Mr. Sam Fitzsimmons:
I will add a little more on that question. Amanda alluded earlier to what happens in an integrated school. It is about addressing diversity and celebrating diversity within the school. There is an opportunity to that because of the diversity within the school. That does not happen within a single-tradition school. As was pointed out, less than 8% of Catholics go to Protestant-controlled schools and less than 1% of Protestants go to a Catholic school. In essence, only one narrative is being heard within those schools. Within an integrated school, however, multiple narratives are being heard, not just in the playground but also in the staffroom and the classroom.
