Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs

Youth Mental Health: Discussion

Mr. Jim Ryan:

The Deputy may recall that the Minister of State, Deputy Daly, sought to explain an emergency response. If a young person is referred to CAMHS and his or her condition is deemed an emergency by the team, there is a target of 72 hours by which the young person will be seen. The target arose as a result of a particular development a number of years ago. While we provided the figures the Deputy quoted, I have some concerns about their validity and will have to revert to the committee on them. We expect 100% of young people in an emergency to be seen within the period outlined.
