Committee on Budgetary Oversight

Scrutiny of Tax Expenditures (Resumed)

Mr. Seamus Coffey:

It would be of real concern if there was to be a significant overrun this year in line with previous years. The planned spend for 2018 was €15.3 billion. The planned spend for this year is €17.1 billion, which is an increase of €1.8 billion to meet last year's overrun of €600 million and an additional €1.1 million for 2019. In the context of this large amount of additional resources, if there is a significant overrun, the fact that these increases were not sufficient to keep the health spend within its budgets would be of huge concern.
