Select Committee on Justice and Equality
Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Bill 2019: Committee Stage

I am interested in hearing how the Minister arrived at the figures of €10 and €750. Thirty-five years ago in Killybegs I could have gambled £2 when the stake was 2.5 pence. There was no enforcement of the law. How do we know that there will be enforcement of the law now? If the law provides for a stake of €10, I am 100% sure one can gamble €100 in establishments because I know the way they work. That is the problem. I am more interested in hearing how the Minister arrived at the figures, but I am also interested in hearing how the law will be made workable and enforced. The figures of €10 and the €750 are more than enough, but, in reality, the amounts gambled will be much more.
