They are investigated by a combination of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau and divisional units under the direction and control of the local superintendent. An assessment of the complexity is made by Detective Chief Superintendent Pat Lordan and his team. The more complex cases are dealt with by the central national unit, in which a team deals with such issues, while the others are dealt with locally.
